Gearing Up

I don't know about you all, but this week has been all about prep for next week because next week is THE week.  Next Tuesday marks the beginning of VinExpo, a trade only fair of wine, wine, and a whoooooole bunch more wine.  I am giddy/exhausted just thinking about it.

But that's next week.  What's been going on this week?

We have anxiously been awaiting the arrival of our newest member....from France!  I'll let Julia introduce herself more thoroughly once she's here, but basically Julia loves food and wine.  To me those are the perfect and necessary credentials to work in this biz.  We are so excited to have her here and can't wait to show her all that Hong Kong has to offer.  VinExpo's not a bad intro, eh?

Also this week were several fun events.  Wednesday evening we had the pleasure of hosting a wine tasting with the Lanson Place members.  People flew in from around Asia for the tasting a week of training.  We were happy to cap off the evening with comparative wine challenge.

Fantastic views of Kwun Tong

Tasting went as follows:

Round 1

Cleary Organic Sauv Blanc (Spain)  vs.  Chateau des Tourtes Sauv Blanc Semillon (France)

Winner:  CO SPAIN!

Round 2

Chateau Boutisse 2005 (1st growth Saint Emilion)  vs. Baron Boutisse 2005 (2nd growth SE)

DRAW.

Round 3

Barolo Vegra 2007 DOCG (1st) vs. Barolo Albenza 2007 DOCG (2nd)

Winner: Vegra by a hair!

I think everyone enjoyed the challenge and it's given us plenty of ideas for future tasting themes.  Stay tuned.....

Thursday we were up bright and early for the American Club Summer Bazaar.  We were lucky enough to be put next to our friends at The Powder Room, which ensured plenty of action in our corner all day!  Have you seen their baby clothes?  But,  I must say the highlight for me were the cookies!!!  If there's a birthday, baby, bad hair day coming up, do yourself a favor and get on the phone to Honey Pie!.  They deliver.  Do it.

So yeah, now it's just rest and anticipation.  Get your sleep while you can cats, because next week is a PARTY a lot of work :)
