Franch Moment

In honor of the French Moment's challenge today, I thought I would write a post about the Loire Valley wine region in France.

The Loire Valley is located right in the middle of France and includes 87 different appellations.  Wow.

The major grape varietals include:

Chenin Blanc
Chardonnay
Sauvignon Blanc
Melon de Burgundy ( I had never heard of this before!)

But they also have a little red:

Cabernet Franc.

What do you know about the Loire region?  I myself am not familiar but will definitely try to get my hands on some Melon de Burgundy.  It just sounds delicious, oui?
