A Little Lesson

The Basics:
  • Right bank
  • 13,600 acres
  • Soil: Limestone, clayey limestone, and gravel
  • Recommended Vintages: 2005, 2003, 2000, 1998, 1995, 1990, 1989, 1982
  • Aromas: Truffles, toasted bread, cooked red fruits
  • Pairs With: mushrooms, bird game, salmon, sauerkraut, spare ribs, roasted lamb
  • Cheese Pairings: Cantal, Comte, Ossau-Iraty, Reblochon, Tomme de Savoie

It is the oldest wine area in Bordeax with the earliest vineyards planted by Romans as early as the second century!

SE is recognized as a World Heritage site and considered to have the most robust wines in Bordeaux.

Principal red wine region in Bordeax boasting the growth of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon.

There are 49 Chateaus in the region!
